No Country Big Enough to Face World Alone: Mogherini Says of US JCPOA Exit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini stressed the need for preserving the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers and criticized the US for scrapping it, saying “no country is big enough to face this world alone.”

“We are determined to keep this deal in place,” Mogherini said in an address to a State of the Union conference on Friday, adding that only Iran has the power to unilaterally wreck the deal, Politico reported.

“It seems that screaming, shouting, insulting and bullying, systematically destroying and dismantling everything that is already in place, is the mood of our times. While the secret of change — and we need change — is to put all energies not in destroying the old, but rather in building the new.

She also slammed the idea there could be a quick replacement for the Iran deal, which she reminded the audience took 12 years to negotiate. Global leaders have to “move on from the ‘I win, you lose’ approach,” she said.

“No country is big enough to face this world alone.”

In a speech from the White House on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, namely Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany, provided that the remaining JCPOA parties ensure its full benefits for Iran.
