Heavy Rains, Floods Destroy over 100 Houses in North Afghan Province

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Torrential rains and floods had destroyed more than 100 houses and left hundreds of people homeless in Imam Sahib district of the northern Kunduz province over the past three days, a member of provincial council Mohammad Yusuf Ayubi said Monday.

The heavy rains and flooding which began on Friday and continued until Sunday afternoon, according to the official, had washed away more than hundred of houses and damaged hundreds of others in Imam Sahib District, rendering hundreds of families homeless, Xinhua news agency reported.

Hundreds of acres of farmlands and gardens have also been destroyed or damaged due to heavy rains and flash floods in Imam Sahib District and adjoining areas, the official asserted.

A total of 72 people have lost their lives, two others are missing and nine others injure while nearly 1,700 houses had been destroyed and 890 more houses partially damaged due to rains and flooding that swept parts of Afghanistan over the past 10 days, the country's Natural Disaster Management Authority said.
