3 Emirati Activists Still in Jail despite End of Prison Term

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The UAE authorities continue to arbitrarily detain three prisoners of conscience despite the expiry of their sentence in flagrant violation of international law.

Osama Al-Najjar is still behind the bars though he was scheduled to be released on March 17, 2017, after serving his full three-year prison sentence, the official website of International Campaign For Freedom in the UAE (ICFUAE) reported recently.

The young blogger, who was 25 years old during his arrest in 2014, was sentenced to three years in prison for a tweet in support of 94 Emirati detainees, among whom was his own father.

The prisoners of conscience Said al-Buraimi and Abdu al-Wahid al-Badi are also kept in UAE jails despite the fact that they both finished their prison terms on March 5, 2018.
