Time for Uninvited Guests to Leave Syria: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior adviser to the Iranian Parliament’s speaker said the time has come for uninvited foreigners in Syria, including the US forces, to leave the Arab country now that the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group has fallen.

“Since the beginning (of crisis in Syria), the Islamic Republic of Iran has insisted on political solutions in Syria, and now, with the defeat of Daesh, the time has come for uninvited foreign guests, including the US which has several military bases in that country, to leave Syria in order to pave the way for free elections involving all Syrian people,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with an official from the European External Action Service on Sunday.

He also underlined that the Iranian military advisers helping Syria in the war on terrorism will stand with the Arab country as long as the Damascus government needs help.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups fighting against its central government.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supported its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.

Last week, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Iran’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and its advisory mission in the Arab country will continue as long as Damascus wants so.
