EU FMs to Adopt Conclusions on JCPOA in Brussels Today: Mogherini

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The EU foreign ministers, who are meeting today in the Belgian capital, Brussels, will “take decisions and adopt conclusions” on the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, after US President Donald Trump refused to remain in the deal, Federica Mogherini said.

“Today, on the agenda of (the EU) Foreign Ministers, we have first and foremost our work to save the nuclear deal with Iran. I will update the ministers on the good joint commission meeting we had last Friday in Vienna, where the remaining countries without the US met at the level of deputy ministers together also with director general of the IAEA Amano who certified for the 11th time that Iran is fully compliant with all its nuclear-related commitment under the deal,” Mogherini, the EU's foreign policy chief, told reporters on Monday ahead of the meeting.

She added, “We will also have this opportunity with the ministers the opportunity to exchange and take decisions. So you will see a set of conclusions adopted today”.

A meeting of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) took place in Vienna on May 25, 2018 upon the request of the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to review the implications of the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA on May 8 and discuss the way forward to ensure the continued implementation of the deal in all its aspects.

Under the terms of the JCPOA, the Joint Commission is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the nuclear deal.

The Joint Commission, chaired, on behalf of EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, by EEAS Secretary General Helga Schmid, was attended by the E3+2 (China, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom) and Iran at the level of Political Directors/Deputy Foreign Ministers.
