Amir Ghafour: Our Young Players Played Very Well against Canada
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran opposite spiker Amir Ghafour says that their young players showed a very good performance against Canada in the 2018 Volleyball National League (VNL) on Monday.
Iran lost to Canada 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21) in Week 2 of the VNL in San Juan, Argentina.
“Our reception was very bad, but after the first two sets, we fought hard and got back in the game. That is very good for us especially because some young players played very well,” Ghafour said.
“We lost against Canada but we played hard until the end. That is positive,” he added.
Iran national team coach Igor Kolakovic also says the young players helped them to recover energy.
“The players on the bench helped us to recover the energy and even though we lost, I’m happy for the fight and the authority we showed against Canada,” Kolakovic said in the post-match news conference.
“For us the third set was very positive because we showed ourselves that we can play in difficult situations. The opening was really strong for us, but without energy we cannot play,” he continued.
