TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian army and its allies repelled a major attack by Takfiri militants in the eastern countryside of the southwestern province of Quneitra, killing and injuring dozens of them.

Syrian forces and their allies clashed with terrorist groups in the areas of Mas’hara, Um Batina, al-Ajraf, Tal Koroum and Juba in Quneitra after they attempted to sneak into the eastern part of the province, SANA news agency reported.

The infiltration attempt was nipped in the bud after scores of them lost their live in the counterattack.

In a separate development, the army stepped up attacks on the terrorists in the country's western-central province of Hama, inflicting major losses on them near al-Ankawi-Qlidin road in the northwestern countryside of the province.

Syria is in the final stages of a battle against Takfiri terrorist groups that poured into the Arab country after the outbreak of the civil war in 2011.

In November, the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group was flushed out of its last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.
