US Discredited among Allies: Iranian MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of an Iranian parliamentary commission dismissed the notion of direct talks between Tehran and Washington, saying the US has become discredited even among its allies and isolated in the international community.

US Discredited among Allies: Iranian MP

“The US has lost credibility among its allies and is known as a hated and law-breaker administration in the international arena,” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told ICANA.

“The US has never been in such terrible conditions in the international arena and in such isolation,” he added.

The US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with the purpose of reviving sanctions on the Islamic Republic reveals the US growing hostility towards Iranians, the lawmaker added, categorically rejecting the proposal for direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

The comments came after a number of Iranian political activists urged the country’s officials to hold direct negotiations with the US to resolve the standoff over the JCPOA.

The letter said that the talks could protect Iran's national interests and solve some of its problems.

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
