Ayatollah Khamenei Praises Team Melli
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei lauded the “victorious” members of the national football team for their performance in the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Ayatollah Khamenei’s office sent a message to Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Masoud Soltanifar, who is now in Russia, to commend the footballers for their World Cup action.
“Tell this to Iran’s Team Melli: You came out victorious and glorious. Well done! May God help you have success,” the message read.
The Iranian footballers finished third in the 2018 World Cup “Group of Death” with four points after a 1-1 draw against Portugal in their last group game on Monday night.
Iran had beaten Morocco 1-0 and suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Spain.
The performance of Iranian players in the tournament has won praise from people and experts.
In a message, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the athletes brought glory to Iran by “fighting to realize dreams of a great nation.”
