Austrian Airlines to Limit Flights to Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Austrian Airlines has announced plans for changes in its flight schedule, including a halt to flight to the Iranian cities of Isfahan and Shiraz.

Citing a “realignment of its portfolio”, the Austrian Airlines has announced changes in its route network and flight schedule.

The Iranian cities of Isfahan and Shiraz will no longer be represented in the Austrian Airlines flight offering as of September 2018, Aviation Tribune reported.

The traditional flight to the Iranian capital of Teheran will, however, remain unaffected.

Beginning October 2018, Austrian Airlines will also remove certain connections from its winter schedule, such as Hong Kong, Havana and Colombo.

“With the entire fleet and now 12 long-haul aircraft, we want to offer a denser route network and thus an improved offer for our passengers,” Austrian Airlines chief channel officer (CCO) Andreas Otto said.

The decision to stop Austrian flights to the Iranian cities came shortly after Dutch airline KLM said it will also halt flights to Tehran "as a result of the negative results and financial outlook" following the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
