Iran Defeats Germany at World ParaVolley


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran earned its second victory in a row, beating Germany in straight sets (25-20, 25-9, 25-13) in the 2018 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships on Monday.

Iran’s women team also lost to 2016 Paralympic Games runner-up China 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-18).

The Iranian men’s team had started the competition with a 3-0 win over Japan while the women’s team defeated Slovenia 3-0.

The competition is being held in the Netherlands from 15 to 22 July.

The 2018 World ParaVolley Championships are being held in five cities across the Netherlands with the winner qualifying for Tokyo 2020.

Iran leads the way with nine medals in total – all won in the men’s competition – with six gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

The Netherlands won both those first editions and is the country with the second most number of medals (eight) across both genders in the tournament – six gold (four women, two men) one silver (men) and one bronze (men).

Bosnia and Herzegovina sits third on overall medal tally with five medals – three gold, one silver and a bronze – all won in the men’s competition including three gold in the last four editions.
