IRGC General: Iran’s Threat of Retaliation Real

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps cautioned bullying countries not to jeopardize their interests by threatening those of Iran, saying Tehran’s warning that it will respond to the countries seeking to block Iranian oil exports is genuine not just an empty threat.

In an interview with Tasnim, IRGC Lieutenant Commander for Political Affairs General Yadollah Javani commented on Iran’s capability to close the Strait of Hormuz or project power in the Red Sea in response to the US threat of blocking Iranian oil exports.

“If anybody wants to threaten the Islamic Republic of Iran’s interests, Iran will, in turn, threaten their interests with its capabilities,” the general said, pledging a natural reaction from the Iranian Armed Forces to the American bullying policies.

“When a country threatens Iran and raise the idea that it can block Iranian oil exports if it wants, then Iran’s reciprocal threat is an authentic threat,” Javani added.

He also slammed “foreign interference” and activities by the proxies of foreign groups and trans-regional countries as the root cause of instability in the region.

Highlighting Iran’s role in ensuring security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, the general said Iran has a strategic position, has control over the waterways of such a critical region, and enjoys great capabilities and political determination.

His comments came one day after IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari scorned the enemies’ rhetoric of harsh military action on Iran, saying the foes have found it impossible to carry out their threats against the Islamic Republic.

In separate remarks on Thursday, IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani shrugged off US President Donald Trump’s recent threats against Iran, saying if the US were to begin a war, it would be Iran that would finish it.

During a recent visit to Austria, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pledged that Tehran will stand firm against the US threat to halt Iranian oil shipments, saying no other country in the region could export oil if Iran is to be deprived of oil exports.
