Scenes from Apocalyptic Hiroshima Still Haunting after 73 Years (+Photos, Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Haunting photos of US atomic bombing show the devastating aftermath of the 1945 attack on the Japanese city of Hiroshima in its 73rd anniversary.

The black and white photographs from the ATI show the desolate cityscape and apocalyptic landscape, with buildings completely flattened and the surrounding area virtually deserted.

Hiroshima marked the 73rd anniversary of the August 6th, 1945, atomic bombing by the US army with a sombre ceremony to remember the people killed and injured and to call for the elimination of nuclear weapons.

The US attack killed 140-thousand in Hiroshima and the Nagasaki bombing killed 70-thousand, three days later, with Japan soon surrendering to end World War II.

The footage shows the aftermath of the incedent after the Boeing B29 Stratofortress bomber aircraft 'Enola Gay' dropped the first atomic weapon used in combat over the Japanese city of Hiroshima at 08:15 local time on 6 August 1945.
