Iran Finishes Sixth at Asian Games after Winning 62 Medals

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian delegation moved down one place to sixth at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia.

The Iranian delegation had finished in fifth place in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Iran’s medal tally closed at 62 medals including 20 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze.

Saeid Rajabi in +80kg and Mirhashem Hosseini in 63kg won two gold medals in taekwondo.

Hassan Yazdani (86kg), Alireza Karimi (97kg) and Parviz Hadi (125kg) snatched three gold medals in freestyle wrestling.

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers Mohammad Ali Geraei in 77kg and Hossein Nouri in 87kg seized two gold medals.

Wushu practitioners Erfan Ahangarian in the -60kg and Mohsen Mohammadseifi in the -70kg won two gold medals.

Reza Alipour claimed a gold medal in the climbing.

Iranian women’s and men’s kabaddi teams snatched two gold medals.

Weightlifter Sohrab Moradi snatched gold medal in the men's 94kg class and Behdad Salimi won a gold in the men’s +105kg.

Karate athletes Sajjad Ganjzadeh in the +84kg and Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh in the -75kg won two gold medals.

Hossein Keyhani took a gold medal at the 3000m steeplechase.

Kurash athlete Elyas Aliakbari seized a gold in the men -81 kg.

Discus thrower Hamed Haddadi took a gold medal.

Volleyball national team overpowered South Korea in the final match to win Iran’s 20th gold medal.

China came first with 132 gold, 92 silver and 65 bronze medals.

Japan finished in second place, winning 74 gold, 56 silver and 74 bronze medals.

South Korea sat third with 49 gold, 57 silver and 70 bronze medals.

Host Indonesia came fourth with 31 gold, 24 silver and 43 bronze medals.

Uzbekistan surpassed Iran in the final days and came fifth with 21 gold, 24 silver and 25 bronze medals.
