Turkmenistan Stops Iranian Trucks Bound for Tajikistan: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – About 100 Iranian cargo trucks bound for Tajikistan have been unable to cross the border with Turkmenistan for over a week, a report said.

Ashgabat’s refusal to give entry permits to them has led to this situation, according to the report carried by Chronicles of Turkmenistan on Monday.

Drivers of the trucks, which have got stuck at the border checkpoint Lyutfabad-Artyk, said the reasons behind the ban are not explained to them by Turkmen guards at the checkpoints.

Passenger buses purchased by Tajikistan in Turkey have also been stopped at the border checkpoint Sarakhs. They were also denied access, — one of the drivers said.

According to another driver from Tajikistan, Turkmen border guard patrols provide no access only to those vehicles which are transporting cargo to Tajikistan. He said that the vehicles carrying merchandise to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries could cross the border without a hitch.

It has been reported that the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan was briefed on the situation.
