Terrorists in Syria on Last Legs: Iranian Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani hailed the cooperation between Iran and Russia in the war against terrorism, saying the terrorist groups fighting against the Syrian government are on the verge of total defeat.

Terrorists are running out of breath in Syria, Larijani said in a meeting with Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, held in Russia’s southwestern city of Volgograd on Thursday.

Denouncing the US government’s sanctions on Iran and Russia following the defeat of terrorist groups in Syria, Larijani said such pressures reveal what Americans have trouble with.

He also expressed hope for growing interaction between Tehran and Moscow, which he said have played a leading role in the fight against terrorism in the region.

For his part, Volodin called for the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation between Russia and Iran.

Larijani has travelled to Volgograd to take part in a meeting of the Iran-Russia inter-parliamentary commission.

Iran and Russia have worked together to end the war in Syria and help the Damascus government combat the terrorist groups.

In recent months, the Syrian army has managed to liberate many of the areas occupied by terrorists and is preparing to launch an attack to recapture the northern city of Idlib.
