Houthi Official: US Using Yemen War as Merchandise to Reach Objectives

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The US government has exploited the war on Yemen to reap economic gains and press on with the so-called ‘deal of the century’ initiative, spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah Movement said.

In a post on his Twitter account, Mohammad Abdulsalam said Washington considers the Saudi-led war against Yemen as a commercial merchandise to earn more revenues and carry out its deal of the century plan -an intuitive aimed at ending conflicts between Palestine and the Zionist regime of Israel.

He also noted that the United Nations is unable to settle the war on Yemen because the US is a supporter of the Saudi-led aggression and blockade of Yemen.

As regards his recent meeting in Muscat with UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths, Abdulsalam said the meeting has concluded that the peace process in Yemen in shaky, the economic blockade of Yemen is still in place, the humanitarian situation has been aggravated, and the prisoners are still held captive.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in Yemen in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 15,000 Yemenis, including women and children, have died in the deadly military campaign.
