Iranian Speaker Sends Condolences over Vietnam President’s Death

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani offered his condolences to his Vietnamese counterpart over the death of the Southeast Asian country’s President Tran Dai Quang.

In a message to Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on Wednesday, Larijani paid tribute to the late Vietnamese president for his contribution to enhanced ties between the governments and people of Iran and Vietnam.

Quang died on Friday at age 61 at a military hospital in capital Hanoi following a period of illness.

He was appointed Vietnam’s president, a ceremonial role, in April 2016, and served alongside Vietnam's de facto leader Communist Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Before that he served as minister of public security.
