In the meeting with his Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu in New York on Thursday, Zarif held talks about a host of topics, including ways to boost bilateral relations between Tehran and Bucharest in diverse fields.

The meetings were held on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 73).

The Iranian foreign minister also met with his Norwegian, Slovenian, Venezuelan, and Paraguayan counterpart on the same day.

During the talks, the top diplomats exchanged views about various issues ranging from bilateral ties between Iran and their respective countries to the most important developments in the Middle East region and the world.

As a member of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s entourage, Zarif has made the trip to New York to participate in the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking to reporters at John F. Kennedy International Airport upon his arrival, Rouhani said he would have sideline meetings and interviews during the trip.

The president also said that the UNGA provides an opportunity for a better explication of the US breach of international regulations, including the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
