Protesters Took to Streets of Chicago following Van Dyke Guilty Verdict (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Moments after the jury issued a guilty verdict for Chicago police office Jason Van Dyke in the 2014 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, hundreds took to the streets, celebrating McDonald’s justice and taking a stand against police brutality.

Dozens of protesters held a rally outside Chicago city hall on Friday, only an hour after Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2014 shooting of Laquan McDonald.

The rally was organized by Black Lives Matter Chicago and Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, and was to be held regardless of the outcome of the verdict, as the two groups and others supporting it are calling for an elected Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC).

Seventeen-year-old Laquan McDonald was killed in October 2014, after being shot 16 times by Jason Van Dyke. Video footage showing the killing of McDonald at the hands of the Chicago police officer sparked a series of protests in several cities across the United States.
