Iran’s Parliament Speaker Sympathizes with Indonesia over Plane Crash

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani sent his condolences to Indonesia over the recent airplane crash in the Java Sea that killed all 189 people on board.

In a Thursday message to Speaker of the People's Representative Council of Indonesia Bambang Soesatyo, Larijani extended deep condolences to the Indonesian government, nation, parliamentarians and those who lost family and loved ones in the October 29 plane crash.

The doomed Boeing 737 jetliner, with 189 people on board, went down into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff on Monday.

Rescue teams are still recovering wreckage from the Lion Air passenger flight, which had departed Jakarta and was heading to the island of Sumatra.

The crash was the worst airline disaster in Indonesia in years.

Indonesia relies heavily on air transport to connect its thousands of islands, but has a poor aviation safety record and has suffered several fatal crashes in recent years.
