Yemeni Troops Launch Offensive on Saudi-Backed Militants in Hudaydah

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and fighters from popular committees launched a major attack against Saudi-backed mercenaries in Hudaydah after Saudi Arabia and its allies intensified a brutal offensive on the Arabian Peninsula country’s strategic western coastal province.

According to Yemen’s al-Masirah television on Tuesday, Yemeni drone and artillery units, in a joint operation, targeted the positions of Saudi-sponsored militants in Hudaydah after the Saudi airstrikes killed several people in the Red Sea port city.

Al-Masirah released footage showing residential buildings targeted in the district of Hali in Hudaydah on Monday.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE launched an offensive on June 13 to capture Hudaydah, the main entry point for food in a country teetering on the brink of famine.

The operation, however, came into an immediate halt in the face of stiff resistance by Houthi Ansarullah movement fighters and residents of the port city, which forced the kingdom to wind down the push.

The militants also suffered losses in Ayrem in al-Qabita district, Lahij province.
