Assad, Iranian Diplomat Discuss Syria Developments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign minister’s special assistant for political affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad exchanged views about a range of issues, including the latest achievements in combatting terrorism in the Arab country.

During the meeting in Damascus on Monday, Jaberi Ansari and Assad discussed the latest developments in Syria and the Middle East region, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

The two sides underlined the importance of the Iran-Syria relations as a factor of stability in the region in the face of the policies of the US and its stooges.

Achievements in the fight against terrorism and efforts to achieve progress on the political track in Syria, especially those related to the formation of a committee to review the current constitution, were among the main topics raised in the meeting, according to the report.

Since the outbreak of war and foreign militancy in Syria in 2011, Iran has stood by the Syrian government and supported its people against terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIL).

In recent months, the Syrian army has managed to liberate most of the areas occupied by terrorists and has begun the reconstruction process.
