Iran an Experienced Football Team, Trinidad Coach Says
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Trinidad and Tobago football team coach Dennis Lawrence says they played an experienced Iran team.
Iran defeated the Caribbean team in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in a friendly match on Thursday.
Nottingham Forest striker Karim Ansarifard was on target in the 50th minute.
Team Melli is preparing for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
“First, I would you like to congratulate the Iranian team on the victory. It was a competitive game, exactly the type of game we were expecting," said Lawrence. "Iran is a very experienced team and both teams benefitted from the exercise."
In the first half, Iran dominated ball possession and almost took the lead in the 32nd minute but Ansarifard missed from the penalty spot.
"The Iranian team is well coached. They know what they are doing but at the same time we came prepared and it was not going to be easy for them," said Lawrence.
"I felt in the first half we allowed Iran to have too much possession of the football and we tried to correct it in the second half, which we did."
