Iranian Diplomat Meets UN Syria Envoy in Switzerland

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian foreign minister’s special assistant for political affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, held talks with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura in Switzerland.

Jaberi Ansari, who is Iran’s top negotiator in international Syria peace talks, held separate meetings with de Mistura and a number of Syrian opposition figures in Switzerland on Monday and Tuesday.

In the meetings, the Iranian diplomat discussed the obstacles to the formation and activity of Syria's constitutional committee and the topics to be mooted in a new round of Syria peace talks that are slated to be held in the Kazakh capital of Astana next week.

Last week, Jaberi Ansari paid a visit to Damascus and held talks with Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, Foreign Minister Walid Muallem and a number of other security and political officials on the latest developments in the Arab country and the issues surrounding the constitutional committee.

Iran, Russia, and Turkey are going to hold the next round of talks on Syria on November 28 and 29 in Astana.

Delegations of the Damascus government and the Syrian opposition are also set to attend the 11th round of the talks.

The 10th round of Syria peace talks, known as the Astana Peace Process, was held in Sochi, Russia, in July.
