World Tired of US Unilateralism: Iran’s FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the international community recognizes the danger and is tired of the unilateral policies adopted by Washington, stressing the need for the world to counter them.

Speaking to IRIB at the end of his trip to Rome, Italy to attend the 4th annual Mediterranean Dialogues (MED) conference, Zarif said the fate of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the issue of the US’ unilateral policies were raised in almost all of the sessions he attended in Rome.

The international community is growing tired of these policies and sees the threat they pose to the future, he said.

Zarif underlined that the world should get ready to counter such policies and prevent them from becoming a trend in international relations.

In May, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was achieved in 2015 after years of negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Washington has also imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran in violation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Referring to other issues discussed in his meetings in Rome, Zarif said bilateral ties and regional developments, including the situations in Yemen and Syria, were on the agenda in meetings with Italian officials and those from other countries attending the Rome conference.

He went on to say that the need for ending the dire situation in Yemen and moving toward a political resolution of the crisis in Syria was emphasized in the talks.

Rome hosted the 4th annual Mediterranean Dialogues conference on Thursday and Friday.

MED is a global hub for high-level dialogue on issues of shared interest in the Mediterranean.
