Hundreds Injured after Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake Hits Western Iran (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - At least 700 people were injured in a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck near the border with Iraq.

Buildings were seen damaged in various rural areas in Sarpol-e Zahab and Qasr-e Shirin, causing walls of some homes to fall, according to social media reports.

Sunday's quake in the western part of Iran was about 10 kilometers deep.

The quake was about 20km from Sarpol-e Zahab, Kermanshah province.

Back in November 2017, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck western Iran, killing more than 600 and injuring more than 9,000.

Sarpol-e Zahab suffered half of the temblor’s casualties.

Iran, which sits on several geological fault lines, is prone to earthquakes and suffers a quake per day on average.
