Iran’s Zarif to Attend Afghanistan Peace Talks in Geneva

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will attend the Geneva Conference on Afghanistan, due to be held by the United Nations in the Swiss city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi, Zarif will take part in the conference to express Tehran’s stances on the restoration of peace to Afghanistan.

The top Iranian diplomat is also going to hold talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, and a number of other foreign officials on the sidelines of the conference, Qassemi said Monday.

The United Nations, which is co-hosting the summit at Geneva's Palais des Nations with the Afghan government, said the conference “will be crucial in measuring results against the $15.2 billion committed by the international community for Afghanistan in 2016”.
