US Uses Terrorists for Meddling in Other States' Affairs: Russian Duma Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said the United States is using terrorists as an instrument of pressure and direct intervention in the affairs of sovereign states.

"The geopolitical ambitions of the United States of America, which continue to use terrorists and extremists as an instrument of pressure and direct interference in the affairs of sovereign states, are interfering with well-coordinated work," Volodin told a regional conference on counter-terrorism in Tehran on Saturday.

Washington is trying to use the "countering violent extremism" concept as a rationale for its actions, he said, according to Sputnik.

"Within the framework of this concept, they impose an idea of introducing 'anti-extremist standards' of educating civil society by the so-called independent international experts, bypassing the legitimate authorities," the speaker added.

As a result of such actions, state institutions are being undermined, extremist sentiments and calls for color revolutions are being fomented in society, Volodin said.

The second conference of six regional countries - Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Russia and China- on ways to counter the threat of terrorism kicked off on Saturday morning.

It aims to weigh plans to combat terrorism, share the experiences of participants, adopt new and effective regional approaches, promote regional cooperation, and push for the establishment of broad-based and sustainable peace and development.

The previous meeting was held in Pakistan’s Islamabad in December 2017.

The idea to hold such gatherings was put forward by Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq during the 2nd meeting of the Eurasian Parliaments’ Speakers in Seoul in June 2017.
