The meeting was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters of Pakistan in Ralwapindi, Abb Takk news channel reported, citing a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan.

According to ISPR, the Iranian ambassador and the Pakistani general discussed matters of mutual interest.

ISPR Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said the two sides highlighted the significance of Tehran-Islamabad ties in the cordial meeting.

He added that the two neighbors could contribute to promotion of security in the region.

On December 14, high-ranking officials from Iran and Pakistan signed an agreement to promote cooperation in preserving the security of common borders nearly two months after terrorists abducted a number of Iranian border guards at a military post.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on border security was signed following three-day negotiations between a number of Iranian and Pakistani security and political officials in Iran’s southeastern city of Zahedan.

The two sides agreed to boost cooperation in order to preserve the security of common borders and prevent fuel smuggling as well as human trafficking.
