Iran Raps EU Sanctions, Vows Reaction

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the European Union’s move to hit a number of Iranian individuals with sanctions on bogus charge of sponsoring terrorism, saying Tehran will take the necessary retaliatory action.

In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi slamed the EU’s “illogical and surprising” move to impose sanctions on a number of Iranians by making “baseless allegations”, describing the move as a sign of the European countries’ insincerity in the fight against terrorism.

“Instead of including terrorist and criminal groups like Munafiqeen (MKO terrorists) and al-Ahwaziya in its list of sanctions, the European Union has given them a free hand to carry out anti-human and terrorist activities and even supports them, while it accuses the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is the flagbearer of combatting terrorism in the region and to which Europe owes its security,” Qassemi stated.

The spokesman underlined that Iran will take the necessary countermeasures in response to the EU’s move.

On Tuesday, Denmark said the EU has hit Iran's intelligence with sanctions after accusing Tehran of being behind assassination plots in the Netherlands, Denmark and France.

The sanctions include the freezing of funds and other financial assets of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry and individuals.
