Speaking upon his arrival at Baghdad airport, Zarif lauded the stances adopted by the Iraqi officials regarding the US unilateral economic sanctions against Tehran, and said the two neighboring countries are determined to further bolster and broaden relations and cooperation.

Zarif is visiting Baghdad for the first time after formation of the new Iraqi government.

The Iranian minister noted that after defeating Daesh (also ISIS) terrorist group, some sides such as the US tried to create obstacles on expansion of ties and cooperation between Iran and Iraq, but failed to attain their goals.

The US is the loser horse, Zarif said and advised other countries avoid betting on losing horse.

He further noted that he will confer with Iraqi officials and also attend at three economic meetings in Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah and Karbala.
