Blast Heard in Vicinity of Syria's Damascus: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An explosion was heard in the vicinity of Syria’s capital Damascus and initial reports point to a “terrorist” attack, Syrian state TV reported on Sunday morning.

It reported there were injuries but did not give further details.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011.

The foreign-backed war has killed half a million people and forced more than half the country’s pre-war population from their homes.

In recent months, Syrian government forces, backed by allies, have retaken control of much of the country, and the conflict is generally believed to be winding down.
