FBI Arrests Former Trump adviser Roger Stone in Mueller Probe

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The former campaign adviser to US President Donald Trump Roger Stone was arrested by the FBI on charges including false statements and witness tampering.

He was arrested at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following Thursday’s indictment by the office of the FBI Special Counsel which is investigating Trump and his associates over allegations surrounding his 2016 campaign.

Stone was arrested by a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia on seven counts, including one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering, according to CNN.

The indictment alleges that Stone discussed, with senior Trump campaign officials, the release of leaked Democratic National Committee emails by WikiLeaks (referred to in Mueller’s document as “Organization 1”). US intelligence claims the emails were hacked by Russian “government actors.”

The special counsel's office said he will appear before a federal judge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at 11 a.m. ET.

Law enforcement raided Stone's house just after 6 a.m. in Fort Lauderdale.
