TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif praised Algeria for adopting “principled and logical” stances on various international issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program, expressing Tehran’s keenness for stronger ties with Algiers.

Zarif held a meeting with Abdelhamid Si Afif, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Emigration of the National Popular Assembly of Algeria, in Tehran on Sunday.

In the gathering, Iran’s top diplomat highlighted the friendly and brotherly relations between Tehran and Algiers, saying the bonds are based on long-term friendship and close cooperation.

“The Iranian nation and government show great respect to the revolution, people, and government of Algeria, and wish them success,” Zarif said, the Foreign Ministry website reported.

He then hailed the level of Iran-Algeria political collaboration and reciprocal visits by the officials, and expressed hope that bilateral economic relations would further expand through the efforts of both sides.

Praising the North African country’s principled and logical policies, Zarif said Algeria adopts good stances on various issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and the fight against extremism.

The Iranian minister also expressed Tehran’s preparedness to expand cooperation and bilateral relations with Algiers in various fields.

Si Afif, for his part, said Algeria attaches great importance to its friendly and brotherly relations with Iran and is ready for extensive mutual cooperation.
