IRGC General Sees Regional Clout as Iran’s Trump Card against Enemies
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The lieutenant commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Iran exercises such an extensive level of power across the region that any hostile move against the Islamic Republic would be faced with resistance from a “division” of pro-Iran forces wherever that may be.
In comments at a conference in Tehran on Monday, Brigadier General Hossein Salami said Iran does not own concentrated and sizeable number of forces in the region, but has allied forces with identical goals.
While the enemies interpret such Iranian power as penetration, this is in fact a far-reaching impact of the Islamic Revolution that results from the spread of faith, the general explained, adding that Iran’s “strategic depth” in the battlefield has spilled over to the Mediterranean region.
Highlighting the enemy’s failure to counter Iran through proxy wars and the Islamic Republic’s growing deterrent capabilities, General Salami said, “It is not only missile that creates deterrence. Wherever the enemy makes a move against us, a division from the very same region would stand against it.”
He went on to say that Iran’s power has disabled the enemies from resorting to the military option, stressing that the US has become incapable of turning a military success into political achievements.
In comments in November 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei urged the Iranian Armed Forces to boost their military capabilities and preparedness in such a way that the enemies would not ever dare think of threaten the country.
Earlier, Ayatollah Khamenei had called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.
“Without a moment of hesitation, the country must move to acquire whatever is necessary for defense, even if the whole world is opposed to it,” the Leader said in February 2018.
