Iran Appoints New Ambassador to France

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry named Bahram Qassemi as the country’s new ambassador to France.

According to the official website of the ministry on Friday, Qassemi, a former envoy to Spain and Italy who in recent years has served as spokesman of the foreign ministry, was appointed as Iran's new envoy to France.

On Monday, Qassemi, who was speaking on the sidelines of his weekly press conference, told reporters that in the near future he would be leaving his post and replaced by someone else.

Qassemi has been serving as spokesman and head of the Foreign Ministry’s Public and Media Diplomacy Center since mid-2016.

His appointment came a few days after Philippe Thiebaud, a former envoy to Pakistan who once represented France at the UN atomic watchdog, was appointed as the new French ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
