Iran Deplores Western Media’s Double Standards on Terrorism
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian delegation participating in a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva condemned Western media’s double-standard policies on terrorism.
Addressing the 40th session of the UNHRC in the Swiss city, the spokesperson for the Iranian delegation said some Western-backed satellite TV channels have unfortunately been used as “podiums” for terrorists.
Despite international calls for the fight against terrorism, the TV channels in Europe are providing opportunities for terrorist groups to promote themselves, the Iranian representative said.
On September 22, 2018, a terrorist group called al-Ahvaziya carried out a terrorist attack in Iran and a few hours later, Iran International TV broadcasting from London interviewed the terrorist group’s spokesman and gave him the opportunity to claim responsibility for the crime, the spokesperson said, citing an example, noting that in the attack, 25 people, including women and children, were killed.
During a military parade in Ahvaz on September 22, Takfiri militants opened fired on military officials and ordinary people in the event.
Twenty-five people died and 60 others were injured in the terrorist attack.
A senior spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces said four terrorists were involved in the attack, noting that they had hidden their rifles in the parade venue beforehand.
