Iranian Army Voices Strong Support for IRGC against US

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Army condemned a recent move by the US government to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist group” and said the Army is resolved to defend the Islamic Republic “hand in hand” with the IRGC.

“In continuation of its hostile policies against the holy establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the US government has put the IRGC’s name on the list of terrorist groups,” the Army said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The reason for this “pathetic move” is the failure of Washington’s domineering policies in the region and the glorious victories of the Resistance Front against terrorist groups backed by the US and the Zionist regime of Israel, the statement read.

The Army further deplored the US move to blacklist the IRGC as “illegal and unwise”, warning that it would bring about insecurity and violations of peace in the sensitive West Asia region.

“Hand in hand with the IRGC as in the past, the Army will defend the Islamic Republic of Iran and the ideals and achievements of the Islamic Revolution…,” the Army stated.

The statement came after the Trump administration on Monday labeled IRGC as a “terrorist group” at the behest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israelis head to the polls on Tuesday to elect the 120 members of the 21st Knesset (parliament). On the eve of the vote, Netanyahu took credit for Trump’s decision to blacklist IRGC.

“Thank you, my dear friend, President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu tweeted in Hebrew, “for answering another one of my important requests.”

On Monday, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in turn, designated US forces in West Asia, known as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), as a terrorist organization.
