Lebanese Speaker Raps US Sanctions on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon Nabih Berri denounced the US sanctions against Iran, which he described as the top power in the region.

In a meeting with an Iranian parliamentary delegation in Beirut, Berri said the US sanctions against Tehran are cruel and against the international law.

Hailing Iran’s success to overcome the challenges over the past 40 years with national unity, the Lebanese speaker said the Islamic Republic is the main power in the region.

Highlighting Iran’s “positive and major” role in the regional and international developments and its contribution to regional peace and stability, Berri said Lebanon and Iran enjoy strategic ties.

Head of the visiting delegation, for his part, voiced the Iranian Parliament’s willingness to enhance political economic relations between the two nations.

In February, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to Lebanon and held talks with President Michel Aoun on a range of issues, including the ways to boost bilateral relations between the two countries in diverse areas.

The visit came after Lebanon formed a new national unity government, ending nearly nine months of political wrangling.
