Minister Highlights Iran’s Advances in Power Station Industry

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has become a world-class producer of gas turbines with technical expertise in undertaking gas power station projects, the country’s energy minister said.

In an interview with Tasnim, Reza Ardekanian said local experts have gained the knowledge of producing high-powered turbines suitable for Iran’s climate and power grid.

Iran is among a handful of countries manufacturing gas turbines, the minister noted, adding that Iranian technicians can set up power stations at world level.

“Iranian-made components of power plants are being exported to other countries today,” he said, stressing that local manufacturers are capable of making various types of thermal power stations and combined cycle gas turbine plants.

Ardekanian went on to say that foreign sanctions against Iran have resulted in a progress in the country’s water and electricity industries.

In December 2018, Iran’s nominal capacity to produce electricity reached over 80,000 megawatts (MW) following the connection of a number of power plants to the country’s national grid.

Ardekanian had already announced the country’s self-sufficiency in the area of power generation, saying Iran is the top producer of electricity in the Middle East as 90 percent of power generation equipment and complicated parts like turbines and generators are manufactured inside the country.
