In a statement on Monday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi strongly condemned the terrorist attack along a railroad route connecting Iran’s eastern city of Khaf to Afghanistan’s western city of Ghoryan during which a mine blast killed and injured a number of Iranian and Afghan citizens involved in the railroad project.

The spokesman also expressed sympathy with the families of the Iranian and Afghan victims of the incident.

Mousavi announced the launch of a probe into the incident and the immediate provision of medical services for the injured.

Reports said the mine blast in Ghoryan killed an Iranian citizen and an Afghan troop on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for governor of Herat said the Iranian victim worked for the Herat-Khaf railroad project and was travelling to Ghoryan on a vehicle belonging to security forces when the blast happened.
