Iran Eager to Grow Ties with Georgia: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Georgia on its Independence Day, voicing Tehran’s willingness to strengthen bonds with the Caucasus nation in all arenas.

In a Sunday letter to his Georgian counterpart Salome Zourabichvili, Rouhani congratulated Georgia’s government and nation on the Independence Day.

He also expressed the hope that Tehran and Tbilisi would tap into their historical and cultural commonalities and take advantage of their ample economic, political and cultural capacities to boost relations during President Zourabichvili’s term.

Georgians celebrate the Independence Day on May 26 every year to mark the 1918 adoption of the Act of Independence in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917.

This year’s Independence Day in Georgia is celebrated as the country got its first female president in permanent capacity in 2018.

French-born Salome Zurabishvili became president in November 2018 by winning 59.6 percent of the vote in the runoff.
