US Sanctions Targeting Iranian Civilians: FM Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed US sanctions as “economic war” against civilians, saying war and talks will never go together.

“#EconomicTerrorism against Iran targets innocent civilians. Like this little boy, whose heartbroken mother can’t get him prosthetic legs as he grows. They’re sanctioned,” Zarif tweeted on Monday, with a video clip of a woman saying the prosthetic leg her son needs is sanctioned.

“This is @realDonaldTrump’s ‘economic war’. And war and talks - with or without preconditions - don’t go together,” he added in the tweet.

The tweet came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday that the United States was prepared to engage with Iran without pre-conditions.

Recently, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei ruled out the possibility of negotiations with the United States.

Ayatollah Khamenei said talks between Tehran and Washington will be fruitless and harmful.

The Leader warned that sitting down with the US would not result in negotiations, but it is more of a tactic that Americans would use to back their pressure campaign strategy against Iran.
