Iran Volleyball Player Shahram Mahmoudi Comes Out of Retirement

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran opposite spiker Shahram Mahmoudi officially returned to Team Melli after about three years.

Sports

Mahmoudi announced his retirement from international duty after the 2016 Olympic Games due to injury.

“I have been out of national team for more than two years but I have returned to the team to help my country to book a place at the 2020 Olympic Games. We have a big task ahead. Qualifying for the Olympics for the second successive edition will be a great job,” Mahmoudi said.

Iran is preparing for the 2019 FIVB Men's Volleyball Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament.

Igor Kolakovic’s team will raise the curtain on the competition with a match against Cuba on August 9 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Team Melli will play Mexico and Russia in the following days, respectively.

“We have a difficult task ahead in Russia. Russia has recently won the 2019 Volleyball Nations League with the young players and Maxim Mikhaylov, Dmitry Muserskiy and Aleksey Verbov will join them to help their team,” he added.
