Iran, Bolivia Sign MoU on Academic Cooperation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bolivia to run nanotechnology courses awarding advanced academic degrees at a university in the Latin American country’s northern city of Riberalta.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Bolivia in the final leg of a tour of the Americas, and his Bolivian counterpart Diego Pary Rodriguez signed the MoU that entails academic and scientific cooperation between the two nations.
Under the agreement, Iran will share its technical know-how in the nanotechnology industry with Bolivia by establishing master's and doctoral courses and setting up a professional nanotechnology laboratory at the EMI (Escuela Militar de Ingeniería) Military Engineering School of Bolivia.
The agreement was signed within the framework of South–South Cooperation, which refers to the exchange of resources, technology, and knowledge between developing countries.
In comments after signing the agreement, Zarif said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is proudly prepared to share its achievements with the nations that have not connected their progress to the advocates of unilateralism and do not play a role in giving a boost to the hegemony system.”
The key to the development of the nations seeking independence from the colonialist states is to “ignore the conditional support from those states, rely on the local potential, and share their capacities with the countries on the same side,” he added.
The bilateral agreement is aimed at training Bolivian experts on nanotechnology and at the joint production of nanotechnology products by knowledge-based centers and commercialization of goods in Latin America.
After visiting New York for a UN conference, Iran’s foreign minister travelled to Venezuela and Nicaragua before arriving in Bolivia.
