In a statement on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi strongly condemned the attack that killed more than 60 people on Saturday night.
Expressing sympathy with the Afghan government and people, particularly the bereaved families of victims of the “inhumane” attack, Mousavi voiced Iran’s support for Afghanistan’s government and nation, and branded the perpetrators of such crimes as “the enemies of humanity, peace, security, and stability in Afghanistan and the region.”
“Afghanistan is going through a tough and decisive era, as this road is fraught with problems and obstacles,” the Iranian diplomat said.
“We are confident that Afghanistan could overcome these problems through unity among the government, nation and all groups and ethnicities, as well as patience and far-sightedness, and could shape a bright future for its future generations,” Mousavi added, reaffirming that Iran will continue to stand with Afghanistan on this course.
At least 63 people were killed and 182 others wounded in the explosion targeting a wedding in Kabul on Saturday, the deadliest attack in the Afghan capital this year.
The suicide blast took place in the men's reception area at the Dubai City wedding hall in western Kabul, in a Shiite neighborhood, packed with people celebrating a marriage.
Women and children were among the casualties.
The Taliban has denied any involvement in the attack, calling the blast "forbidden and unjustifiable".
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the "inhumane attack" in a Tweet on Sunday, adding that the “Taliban cannot absolve themselves of blame, for they provide platform for terrorists”.
