Assassins of IRGC Serviceman Killed in Iran’s Border Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Two terrorists who had killed a local member of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Iran’s western province of West Azarbaijan have been killed in a raid on their hideout, the IRGC announced.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Hamzeh Sayyid al-Shohada Base of the IRGC Ground Force said its forces have killed the terrorists behind the martyrdom of IRGC member Khalid Shwani.

According to the statement, the “elements affiliated with the global arrogance and the criminal and treacherous” Democratic Party of Kurdistan received punishment only 24 hours after the martyrdom of Khalid Shwani, a local member of Basij (voluntary forces) from the city of Piranshahr.

After a series of intelligence activities and efforts by the IRGC, the Intelligence Ministry’s office and the Border Police in West Azarbaijan Province, the IRGC forces launched a surprise raid on the hideout of the terrorists in a village near the city of Sardasht, it added.

Both elements behind the martyrdom of Shwani were killed in the operation, while a third one, who acted as a middleman to help the terrorists escape from the country, has been wounded and captured, the statement said.

It warned hostile and anti-Revolution groups that their plots to upset security in Iran will receive a harsh and crushing response from the IRGC forces.

Locals say Shwani was martyred in Piranshahr on Monday after gunmen opened fire on him and immediately fled the scene before the security forces arrived.
