Iran, Indonesia Weigh Plans to Boost Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign ministers of Iran and Indonesia discussed the ways to promote political and economic cooperation between the two Muslim nations at a meeting in Jakarta.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who has visited Jakarta in a tour of Asia held a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi on Friday morning.
In the gathering, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the level of political and parliamentary negotiations and economic cooperation between Iran and Indonesia, and stressed the need for the expansion of bilateral ties considering the two nations’ capacities.
They also voiced support for closer political consultations about the Islamic world’s major issues, Palestine in particular, and called for the continuation of interaction over the main regional issues within the framework of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the other international bodies.
In the meeting, Foreign Minister Zarif also expounded on Iran’s principled policy towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the current circumstances, and emphasized the necessity for the other parties to honor the deal and ensure the Iranian nation’s economic interests under the JCPOA.
Zarif has visited Indonesia after a trip to Bangladesh, where he delivered a speech to the 3rd meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
This is the second round of the Iranian foreign minister’s Asian tour. Zarif visited China, Japan and Malaysia last week.
