Iran, Indonesia Share Views on Palestine: Zarif
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Indonesia hold common views on the issue of Palestine, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in Jakarta.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi on Friday morning, Zarif said Tehran and Jakarta have common views about the issue of Palestine.
“Al-Quds (Jerusalem) is the first Qibla for the world Muslims, and the two countries (Iran and Indonesia) pursue common goals in this regard,” the top Iranian diplomat added.
He also pointed to the collective efforts for regional security, noting, “The regional countries have ensured security of the Persian Gulf region for centuries, and also today, the Persian Gulf’s security would not be achieved without cooperation and interaction among the regional countries.”
In remarks in 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined that security of the Persian Gulf region comes within the purview of the regional countries alone, and dismissed the US claim of seeking security in the region.
“The Persian Gulf security relates to the countries of the region which have common interests, and not to the US. So, security of the Persian Gulf region should be provided by the countries of this region itself,” the Leader said.
